Why Raw?

The dog is a carnivore and should eat like a carnivore to feel good. This means that it should, as far as possible, eat the type of food it would eat in the wild – raw meat, organs, bones, and vegetables.

This feeding method is commonly known as BARF (Biologically Appropriate Raw Food), which perfectly describes the principles of raw feeding. Our complete meals contain 90–95% raw meat, bones and organs. The remaining ingredients consist of vegetables and oils – never grains, corn or other fillers. Every ingredient serves a specific purpose in providing balanced nutrition.

Raw Food Is the Most Species-Appropriate Diet for Dogs

A dog's anatomy reveals its carnivorous nature: its teeth, jaws and digestive system have evolved to process a meat-based diet.

A dog’s teeth and bite are ideally suited for tearing and chewing meat. Unlike herbivores, which grind their food, dogs cannot move their jaws from side to side – they use their jaws differently. Dogs also have a large stomach, typical of carnivores, allowing them to consume large amounts of food at once, even though they no longer need to do so. Their relatively short digestive tract also reflects their meat-based diet. Digesting fibre takes time and requires a longer digestive tract. Since dogs do not consume large amounts of fibre, they have no need for such a long digestive system.

Raw meat is an essential part of raw feeding, as it reflects what dogs would eat in the wild. Feeding meat raw also helps preserve nutrients, as cooking meat and bones destroys some of the nutrients, beneficial bacteria and enzymes. Feeding cooked bones to dogs can even be dangerous, as heating makes bones harder and more likely to splinter into sharp fragments. Cooked bones are also more difficult for dogs to digest. Raw bones, on the other hand, are softer and easier to digest.

BARF Is 100% Additive-Free

Our BARF products are 100% additive-free, so you always know exactly what you’re feeding your pet. If you’d like to see for yourself, you’re welcome to visit our factory in Pietarsaari, Finland, and watch how our products are made!

For us, being additive-free means using ingredients that occur in nature and are processed as little as possible. It means using ingredients without removing or adding anything unnecessary. For example, the meat arrives at our factory fresh. It is then ground, formed into meatballs and frozen – nothing else is done to it.
